The International Federation of Health Plans was founded in 1968 by a group of health insurance industry leaders, and is now the leading global network of the industry, with 80 member companies in 25 countries. Its goal is to assist in the maintenance of high ethical and professional standards throughout the industry.
The federation has estimated that the average cost of hospitalization and physician fees for coronary artery bypass surgery in several countries as shown in the table below. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the average cost of just hospitalization associated with a coronary bypass operation in the United States in 2013 was $38,707. The table below lists the total costs for a procedure (hospitalization plus professional fees) in some countries.
