How to Save Time in the Operating Room

By Daniel Foster27 Feb 2026

Medical solutions are often paradoxical. For example, one of the best ways to reduce stress in the OR is to reduce stress outside of it.

Accumulated decision-burden can weigh heavily on the mind, but as clinicians, we ignore it because we have to. Medical personnel are arguably better than anybody else on earth (except possibly soldiers) at distancing themselves from looming problems to focus on immediate ones.

Nonetheless, the cognitive load doesn’t evaporate. Consider that, while a clinician is treating the patient in front of them, they can still answer virtually any question you ask about their treatment of the previous patient. This is how information should be retained, clinically, but it also evidences the mounting mental (and emotional) burden; therefore, Transonic’s technology is designed to help reduce this load in one of the most critical places: the OR.

For example, CABG grafting is difficult, exacting, and critical. It is natural for clinicians to have nagging thoughts about the success of a surgery afterwards (for hours or days) depending on the status of the patient pre- and post-op, and anything that may have occurred during surgery, so we designed our technology with this problem in mind.

Subjective measures of graft patency can weigh heavily—unless clinicians can verify them intraoperatively. Seeing the data that confirms patency—and flow rate in mL/min—allows clinicians to put the surgery out of their minds and focus on other cases—meaning every patient down the line benefits.

The savings in time, stress, patient health, and finances are incalculable, and our technology can perform this service across a host of surgical fields from cerebrovascular to CABG to microvascular to HD access creation.
