American Society of Nephrology (ASN)
The mission of 18,000 member American Society of Nephrology (ASN) is to leads the fight to prevent, treat, and cure against kidney disease throughout the world by educating health professionals and scientists, sharing new knowledge, advancing research and innovation, and advocating the highest quality care for patients. Its vision is to prevent, treat and cure kidney disease.
To this end, ASN strives to lead the kidney community by educating health professionals and scientists, communicate new information effectively, advocating policy and collaborating with patients, professionals and others to increase the awareness of kidney disease.
The organization seeks to galvanize research to prevent, treat and cure kidney disease that will enhance the lives of patients. They hope to leverage breakthroughs to increase the awareness of kidney disease and encourage careers in nephrology.
In their quest to have every kidney health professional in the world contribute to and benefits from membership in ASN, they hope to expand membership, increase diversity and inclusiveness to include the inter-professional kidney health care team.
ASN also seeks to foster career and leadership development of kidney health professionals as well as to assert the value of nephrology to ensure the highest quality care for patients with kidney disease.
Each year in the fall, ASN sponsored Kidney Week which brings together more than 13,000 kidney professionals from across the globe to exchanger knowledge, learn the latest scientific and medical advances and listen to engaging and provocative discussions with leading experts in the field. In 2018, Kidney Week will be held Oct. 23-28th in San Diego, CA.
In addition, ASN publishes two journals, one monthly news magazine and a daily briefing. The peer-reviewed journals, The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN) and the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) publish the latest scientific studies pertaining to kidney disease and treatment. Kidney News, published monthly in hard copy and on-line bring the latest kidney news to all kidney stakeholders; and In the Loop is a daily briefing on the latest breakthroughs in the field.
