Kidney Failure on the Rise Globally
The National Kidney Foundation estimates that 35.5 million Americans have kidney disease, or 1 in 7 people. This statistic is grim, because in mortality stats, it translates to the 8th most common cause of death in America.1
Chronic kidney disease
A recent global study looked beyond developing chronic kidney disease: they set out to find out how many people are living with end stage kidney disease severe enough to require dialysis or transplant (KFRT), but in the process, they found an even more concerning statistic. Not only are KFRT numbers very high, they are increasing at an alarming rate. In 1990, 1.6 million people qualified as KFRT. Today, the number is 4.6 million.2
Kidney health
This is a long way of saying that the world has never been in deeper need of Transonic’s technology than it is today. Every dialysis patient in the world—all 4.6 million of them—are fighting for their lives: some just by needing infrequent dialysis to augment kidney function, others in a more extreme situation (urgent need for kidney transplant): a daily struggle to keep hope alive against constant pain, fatigue, and weakness. Regardless, all can benefit from the precise guidance that the Transonic HD03 gives to their caretakers. The HD03 offers not one, but three measurements that can be clinical saving-graces.
Transonic Health Care
The Delivered Flow measurement does what hemodialysis machines cannot. It gives you the precise, real-time flow inside the dialysis lines. Make underdialyzing a thing of the past!
The Recirculation measurements are given in percentages, so clinicians can make fast decisions regarding cathether function, and receive forewarning about a host of problems like a fibrin sheath at the catheter lumen.
The Access Flow measurement gives the same precise, fast readout, but does so at the dialysis access itself, alerting the clinician to potential stenosis or other access issues before they become emergent. Because, as we all know in dialysis, there is no patient health without access health.
And that’s what it’s all about: patient health. If you’re reading this, then you’re most likely a hemodialysis clinician, so we thank you for the work and care you put into your patients every day.
